Watching TV Is A Warning Sign You’re Depressed & Lonely.Watching TV is no longer considered a “harmless addiction” but depressed people will watch when low.Watching is linked to feelings of loneliness and depression,a new study suggests.
According to the study, where more than 300 people were surveyed, the more lonely and depressed people were, the more likely they were to watch TV.
Their TV viewing habits and moods were also studied.
Those who were lonely and depressed were found TV as a distraction from their negative feelings.
People who lack self-control also were unable to resist the temptation to keep on watching even when they have other tasks to complete.
Some people adopt the habit of spending days or multiple hours watching several episodes of their favorite programs, movies or series by means of DVDs or digital streaming.
This is referred to as “binge-watching”
This couch-potato syndrome will have such people trying to catch up with all the episodes in the Game of Thrones,Breaking Bad,House of Cards or Broadchurch and every other eye-catching series. They are more likely to be suffering from low moods.
Even worse, some viewers subscribe to services that give them unlimited online access to films and TV shows.
When an episode from a series ends in that service, it automatically starts screening the next episode after 15 seconds.
A series like House of Cards was made available all in one go online rather than releasing an episode per week. This only made it worse for addicts.
When binge-watching becomes rampant they could neglect work, relationships and even their family.
As a matter of fact, happier people have other things to do with their leisure time, such as volunteering, pursuing hobbies or spending time with friends.
Health problems related to extensive watching include physical fatigue and obesity and they really are a cause of concern.
The findings of this research should be a wake up call for those who thought binge-watching was harmless or believed they can never end up being victims of depression when they actually are without their consent.
Even though watching is an important media aspect,it could greatly affect the social phenomenon.
